The hours leading up to a body sculpting session matter more than most clients realize. The treatments work by mobilizing fat cells, fluid, and lymphatic content — and the body's ability to process and eliminate that work depends entirely on its physical state when you walk through the door.
Clients who prepare well consistently see better results than clients who don't. It's not that one session is dramatically different from another based on prep alone — it's that the cumulative effect of poor preparation, session after session, can leave 30-40% of potential results on the table.
Here's the complete guide to setting yourself up for the best possible session.
The 48 hours before
Hydration is non-negotiable
This is the single most important thing you can do. Aim to drink at least 2 liters of water within the 48 hours leading up to your session. More is better. Many clients aim for 3 liters in the day before treatment.
Why this matters: ultrasonic cavitation works by causing fat cells to release their contents into the surrounding tissue. Those contents are then transported through the lymphatic system, processed by the liver, and eliminated through urine. Every step of that process requires water. A dehydrated body cannot efficiently process the work being done — meaning fat cell contents linger longer, swelling resolves more slowly, and overall results take longer to appear.
If you struggle with plain water, herbal tea, lemon water, or coconut water all count. Coffee, alcohol, and most sports drinks do not — they're net-dehydrating despite providing fluid volume.
Eat clean, eat light
The day before and the day of your session, lean toward lighter, simpler meals. Avoid high-sodium foods that cause water retention. Skip processed foods. Lean proteins, vegetables, and whole grains support a body that's about to do real work.
This isn't a rigid rule — one off meal isn't going to ruin your session. But the cumulative pattern matters. Clients who eat well in the days surrounding their sessions consistently see clearer, faster results.
Skip alcohol
Alcohol is dehydrating, places stress on the liver (the same organ that needs to process treatment work), and slows the lymphatic system. Try to avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your session, and ideally 48 hours.
If you have an event the night before treatment that involves drinking, do your best to hydrate aggressively before bed and the next morning. Don't skip the session — just compensate with extra water.
Cut caffeine in the hours before
Caffeine is also dehydrating and can interfere with the relaxation that allows the body to respond well to treatment. A morning coffee on the day of your session is fine. Multiple cups, or anything caffeinated within 2-3 hours of treatment, is not ideal.
The day of your session
Don't skip meals, but eat light
Don't arrive on an empty stomach. The session is two hours of physical work on your body — going in fasted can leave you feeling weak or lightheaded. A light meal (like a salad with protein, or oatmeal with fruit) 1-2 hours before treatment is ideal. Avoid heavy or rich meals immediately before.
Empty your bladder before the session
This sounds basic, but it matters. The treatment runs two hours, and pressure on a full bladder during cavitation or wood therapy is uncomfortable. Use the restroom right before your session begins.
Wear practical clothing
You'll change into disposable underwear during treatment. Beyond that, wear something comfortable that you don't mind getting a small amount of treatment oil on. Loose-fitting clothes that you can change into easily after treatment are ideal. Avoid jeans or anything tight that will press uncomfortably on freshly-treated areas.
Remove self-tanner
If you use self-tanning lotion or spray tan, please remove it before your session. Self-tanner can interfere with the equipment's contact with skin and reduces treatment effectiveness. The day before your appointment, exfoliate the treatment areas thoroughly to remove any residual tanner.
Things to avoid in the days leading up
Intense exercise immediately before
Light movement (walking, gentle yoga) is fine and even beneficial. But intense workouts (heavy lifting, high-intensity intervals, long runs) within 12-24 hours of your session aren't ideal. Your muscles need recovery time, and the lymphatic system has limited bandwidth — burning it on workout recovery while also trying to process treatment work splits its attention.
Hot tubs, saunas, and intense heat the day of
Skip hot tubs, saunas, and prolonged hot showers immediately before your session. The body's vascular system needs to be in a baseline state for the radio frequency portion to work optimally.
Other heavy bodywork in the same week
Deep tissue bodywork, lymphatic drainage from another provider, or other intensive treatments in the day or two before your session can interfere. Spread treatments out by at least 48-72 hours.
Don't fast or "detox" before
You don't need to fast, juice cleanse, or detox before treatment. The body works best when it's properly nourished. Drastic dietary changes before a session can leave the body in a stress state that responds less well to the work.
If you're on your menstrual cycle
Body sculpting and plasma rejuvenation sessions cannot be performed during your menstrual cycle. The body retains more water, the lymphatic system functions differently, and treatment results are inconsistent. If your cycle starts before your scheduled appointment, please reschedule. There's no fee for rescheduling for this reason.
Many clients schedule their sessions around their cycle when planning a series — typically 4-7 days before their cycle is expected, when the body is in its most balanced state.
Special considerations
Recent surgery: Standard body sculpting is not appropriate during early surgical recovery. If you've had any surgery in the last 6-12 months, please consult your surgeon before booking a body contouring session.
Pregnancy or breastfeeding: Body sculpting and plasma rejuvenation are not performed during pregnancy or active breastfeeding. Please reschedule for after weaning.
Active illness: If you're feeling unwell, running a fever, or recovering from a recent illness, please reschedule. The body responds best when it's healthy.
Medications and conditions: Some medications and conditions affect treatment suitability. When you book, share any relevant medical history. Christina will let you know if anything affects your session plan.
The bottom line
Most of preparation is just hydration and a little common sense. Drink water. Eat well. Skip alcohol. Get a good night's sleep. Show up rested, hydrated, and ready to relax for two hours.
Clients who consistently follow these simple steps see noticeably better, faster, longer-lasting results — and find that the cumulative effect over a 4 or 10-session series is dramatic.
